Launch of the Adaptation Fund Project in the Dry Zone


The first Adaptation Fund Project in Myanmar, “Addressing Climate Change Risk on Water Resources and Food Security in the Dry Zone of Myanmar” will be jointly launched by the Union Minister for Environmental Conservation and Forestry, H. E U Win Tun and the United Nations Development Programme Deputy Regional Director for Asia & the Pacific, Mr Nicholas Rosellini on Tuesday 17 February at Sedona Hotel in Mandalay.

The USD $7.9 Million project will be implemented for 4 years. It will reduce the vulnerability of farmers in the Dry Zone to increasing drought and rainfall variability, and enhance their capacities to plan for and respond to future impacts of climate change on food security. The project will be carried out in Shwebo and Monywa in the Sagaing Region, Myin Chan and Nyaung Oo in the Mandalay Region and Chauk in Magway Region and is expected to benefit more than 254,000 people.
