Simulation Exercise for Preparedness for Recovery

The Relief and Resettlement Department (RRD), of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement (MSWRR) in collaboration with ASEAN and, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is organizing a simulation exercise on preparedness for recovery on Sep 15-16, 2016 at Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

This workshop aims at introducing the ASEAN Disaster Recovery Reference Guide (ADRRG) to the ASEAN member states through a simulation exercise (SIMEX) based on a fictional scenario. It aims to familiarize the countries with components of recovery preparedness and demonstrate the application of the various components of the recovery framework.

Vice President U Henry Van Thio, chairman of the National Natural Disaster Management Committee (NDMC), will officially open the event. Dr. Win Myat Aye, Union Minister for Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Mr Peter Batchelor, Country Director of UNDP Myanmar and Mr Harmensyah, Deputy Minister for Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana from Indonesia will deliver remarks on preparedness for recovery.  

Officials from ministries of the Government of Myanmar, members of the ACDM Recovery Working Group, delegates of sector ministries from ASEAN Member States, representatives from UN agencies and international organization will join the event. Participants will assess recovery needs, identify gaps, share their experience and develop measures to be taken for recovery preparedness in their respective fields and countries.
