The Steering Committee is the core governing body to guide implementation of the UNDP's country programme in Myanmar

Nay Pyi Taw – The first meeting of the UNDP country programme’s steering committee convened in Nay Pyi Taw on 7 October has endorsed the programme’s priorities set to support and speed-up Myanmar’s development efforts. The committee, core governing body to guide implementation of the country programme, comprises representatives from various government departments, development partners and non-state actors.

H.E. Dr. Khin San Yee, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development, said the meeting provided an opportunity to review on relevance, efficiency, and synergies of the programme and to focus on gender, partnerships and future outlook.

The country programme of UNDP for 2013-2015 was approved and jointly signed by the government of Myanmar and UNDP in April this year. The meeting learned the experience and achievement of the country programme six months after signing. It also recommended options to improve for future implementation.

Toily Kurbanov, UNDP Country Director in Myanmar said the discussions helped clarify priorities of UNDP country programme in support of Myanmar’s four waves of national reforms.

The first steering committee meeting helps improve governance arrangements between UNDP, government and development partners to ensure that strong results are delivered, he said.
