Mr. Haoliang Xu, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Director, Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific of UNDP, will visit Myanmar from 10-12 July 2018.

During his visit, the Assistant Secretary-General Mr. Xu will meet with senior officials of the Government of Myanmar and partners to discuss UNDP’s new country programme (2018-2022) which was recently approved by UNDP’s Executive Board; and progress with the implementation of the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government, UNDP and UNHCR on 6 June 2018. Within the framework of the MOU, UNDP will play a key role in implementing both short-term and long-term measures (e.g. access to livelihoods, basic services) to promote resilience-based recovery and sustainable development for all communities in Rakhine State, thereby contributing to a comprehensive and durable solution to the displacement of persons in and from Rakhine State.

On Wednesday 11 July, Mr. Xu will participate at the Third Session of the Union Peace Conference – 21st Century Panglong of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. On the same day, Mr. Xu will officially open the new UN Office in Nay Pyi Taw, which hosts 12 UN agencies.

During his visit, Mr. Xu will be accompanied by Mr. Knut Ostby, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator a.i. in Myanmar, and Mr. Peter Batchelor, UNDP Country Director in Myanmar.
