May 28, 2019

The Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Union of Myanmar, UNDP, and UNHCR has been extended today for one year following an agreement by all parties.

The exchange of letters was signed by the Ministry of Labor, Immigration, and Population, and representatives of UNHCR and UNDP in Naypyidaw on Tuesday, 27 May 2019.

The tripartite MoU was first signed on 6 June 2018 as a necessary step to establish a framework for cooperation between the UN and the Government aimed at creating conducive conditions for the voluntary, safe, dignified and sustainable repatriation of refugees from Bangladesh and for helping to create improved and resilient livelihoods for all communities living in northern Rakhine State. In the exchange of letters, all parties reaffirmed their full commitment to the timely and effective implementation of the MoU.
