About the Project

With support from the Government of Norway, the UN-REDD Programme, in partnership with the Regional Community Forestry Training Centre (RECOFTC), assisted the GoM and other stakeholders to develop a REDD+ Readiness Roadmap in the period July 2012-August 2013. The UN-REDD/Myanmar National Programme supports implementation of the Roadmap through building individual, institutional and systemic capacities to implement a national REDD+ programme.

Enhance national capacity for the implementation of REDD+ under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and develop relevant (technical, legal, social) systems.

Expected Results

  • Relevant stakeholders engaged and their capacities developed (Myanmar REDD+ Roadmap Section 1: National Readiness Management Arrangements; and Section 2: Stakeholder Consultation and Participation)
  • National institutions have capacity to implement effective and participatory governance arrangements for REDD+ (Myanmar REDD+ Roadmap Section 4: Implementation framework and safeguards)
  • REDD+ safeguards defined in the national context and national safeguards information system developed (Myanmar REDD+ Roadmap Section 4: Development of the REDD+ Implementation Framework)
  • Development of Myanmar’s national forest monitoring system (NFMS) and preliminary forest RELs/RLs supported (Myanmar REDD+ Roadmap Section 5: Development of a national forest reference emission level and/or forest reference level; and Section 6: Development of a national forest monitoring system)
